ShinyHunters: somebody may be talking

Reuters reports that a suspected member detained in Jordan is helping investigators. The bureau-wide data claim remains a claim.

The cyber-bravado business has acquired an awkward subplot.

Reuters reported on October 3 that Jordanian authorities detained a suspected ShinyHunters member. Two of its sources say he is helping the FBI and other law-enforcement agencies find fellow hackers. Reuters could not establish his location or the circumstances of his detention.[1]

The FBI acknowledged its investigation but declined to confirm this particular arrest. Meanwhile, ShinyHunters’ assertion that it stole information on every FBI employee is still the group’s assertion. Reuters says a sample it examined contained sensitive employee information; that does not establish the claimed total reach.[1]

A horrorshow for the malchicks’ operational security, if the cooperation account holds. Keep the boasting out of the fact column: anonymous-source reporting deserves attribution, and a criminal crew’s sales pitch is not an audit.
