Axios reports on October 4 that Reflection is preparing its first open-weight model for release soon.[1]
The pitch
Reflection’s own blueprint combines customizable models, software to run them and an AI factory underneath. Its Solutions page pitches deployment on a customer’s infrastructure or through partners, with control over how the system operates. A tempting offer for any corporate gulliver tired of renting its thinking by the meter.[2]
The tense
As checked on October 4, Reflection’s About page promises to release model weights, research papers and customization software. The wording is still a commitment. Before calling that usable infrastructure, ask for the checkpoint, the licence and the instructions for running it.[3]
The history
Keep the product labels straight, droogies. Investor Sequoia documented the launch of Reflection’s Asimov code-comprehension agent on July 16, 2025. That announcement said it used third-party models. Reflection already has a product-launch history.[4]
The score
Control is worth something. So are hardware, maintenance and the poor sod who gets paged at 3 a.m. Viddy the full running bill and a test on your own workload before awarding the sovereignty medal. An open door is useful. Somebody still has to run the building.
