OpenAI confirmed the Safety Systems leader’s resignation to Business Insider. His work included safety transparency; the report supplies no reason for his departure.

Another safety headline, droogies. Keep the receipts closer than the conspiracy board.
Business Insider reported on October 2, 2026 that David Robinson, a leader on OpenAI’s Safety Systems team, had resigned the previous week. An OpenAI spokesperson confirmed the departure. The report gives no exact resignation date or reason, and says Robinson had not responded to its request for comment.[1]
In a September 9 Pacific-time post, Robinson said a safety-transparency editor would work with him on OpenAI’s system cards. His public remit included helping explain the safety work. The continuity of that paperwork is worth watching.[2]

The questions for the company are practical: how will it maintain that work through staff changes, and will future releases make unresolved risks easy to find? Clear answers would be considerably more useful than another reassuring safety slogan.
Viddy the next system card. Check what was tested, what failed, what changed, and what is still uncertain. Leave the motive box blank until someone puts evidence in it.
